  • Consulting offers a challenging, rewarding, and fulfilling career path for those who are driven, analytical, and passionate about problem solving. Consultants stand as an intermediary that applies the best practices cultivated by their firm to the myriad of challenging problems faced by clients. There are several reasons why someone might choose to pursue a career in consulting:

Make a difference: You will be working on complex and challenging projects that require you to think critically and come up with innovative solutions. More importantly, you often get to see the lasting impact of your work on organizations firsthand.

Learning continuously: You will be constantly learning and developing new skills. By working on projects across different industries and sectors, consulting will expose you to new challenges and opportunities to grow.

Build your network: Consulting firms are among the most prestigious and respected organizations in the business world. Working at a consulting firm can open doors to a vast network of professionals, including industry leaders, executives, and influencers.

  • Our name stems from the properties of graphite itself. It is a strong, crystalline, orderly structure and the “lead” for pencils we use to write, erase and iterate. Our logo is similarly inspired by the hexagonal structure of graphite.

  • Graphite Group recruits new consultants at the beginning of each semester. Our application process has three rounds – the written response, the group interview, and the behavioral interview.

The written response is the first part of your Graphite application. Here, we ask you to answer a case from the perspective of a Graphite Group consultant! Applicants will need to provide a detailed recommendation to a real-world problem, often similar to a previous Graphite project. We primarily evaluate based on quality over quantity, and please limit your response to five pages.

In the group interview, applicants work in a group of 4 or 5 to solve and present a business case in 75 minutes. This entails brainstorming potential strategies, performing calculations, and designing recommendations, all of which will be presented to a panel of current Graphite members. We assess applicants based on their creative thinking, teamwork, communication skills, business acumen, quantitative ability, and display of respect.

The final stage consists of a conversational interview. This consists of purely behavioral questions to help us understand what you are passionate about, learn about your previous experiences, and answer any questions. Importantly, we want to gauge how you will fit into our close-knit community.

  • At Graphite, we want passionate and curious students, who are collaborative and innovative problem-solvers. Graphite is a very close-knit pre-professional community. During the recruiting process, we look for applicants who can uphold our values as a life-long member of the Graphite community. In addition, we look for candidates who are willing to and capable of meeting our time commitment.

  • Graphite hosts professional development workshops, networking events, and mentorship opportunities for all its members. Our focus, apart from client work, is to help each individual member reach their professional goals. Recruits go through a four week onboarding program to learn all essential skills to help them succeed at Graphite. Additionally, consultants have access to resources like internship opportunities, casebooks, and interview guidelines. Graphite also has a growing alumni network in various fields who are more than willing to give back to the Graphite community!

  • Here is one to take a look at: https://www.caseinterview.com/ci-prep. For the final round, applicants should expect a conversational behavioral interview, which does not require any prior preparation.

  • No, we do not expect applicants to possess any consulting experience to succeed in the recruiting process or as a member of Graphite.

Graphite members benefit from extensive professional development programming that helps them develop valuable skills in product management, data analysis, market research, and many more.

The emphasis on embracing differences in Graphite's approach also aligns with our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We aim to create an enriching, dynamic experience for our members by seeking diversity across majors, campuses, and backgrounds. Thus, we provide an interdisciplinary approach to solving problems and a more comprehensive understanding of the world.

Finally, our commitment to developing a supportive community emphasizes leadership development and community engagement. By fostering a tight-knit community and providing mentorship and guidance, we help our members develop the skills and confidence necessary to become responsible leaders and community members.
